Privacy
ScrollPhotos shows travel photos. It has no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and it sells nothing about anyone.
If you're looking
- You don't need an account, and nothing is stored about you unless you react to a photo.
- Reacting sets one cookie,
sp-reactor, holding a random ID and nothing else, kept for a year. Your reactions are stored with a scrambled form of that ID, so the same person can't give the same reaction twice. Delete the cookie and your reactions stay counted but are no longer linked to you. - Views are a number per photo. Who viewed it isn't recorded.
- Your IP address is used to keep the site from being overloaded: it's held in the server's memory for at most an hour and isn't written to any log. Nearby uses it to estimate the city you're in, with DB-IP's database on this server, for that one page; the estimate isn't kept.
- Maps are drawn from OpenFreeMap's tiles, which your browser loads from
tiles.openfreemap.orgwhen a map opens, so OpenFreeMap sees your IP address. Nothing else on this site loads from anywhere else. The Google Maps and Apple Maps links take you to those services.
Photos are public, with their exact place
- Every photo shows where it was taken, as precisely as it's known: from the photo's own GPS data, or from the place its poster chose. It isn't blurred, and it's kept in the image files the site serves.
- Its date and time, the phone or camera, its description and tags are public too.
- Photos are free for anyone to use under CC BY 4.0, with credit. Using the photos says more.
- Place names are looked up with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim, which is sent the photo's coordinates, not anything about you. Tags are suggested on this site's own server; photos are never sent anywhere else to be analysed.
If you post
- Posting is by invitation. For each member the site stores their email address, display name, bio, account number, who invited them, their passkeys, the devices they're signed in on, and what they post.
- Signing in sets a session cookie, which lasts 90 days from your last visit. Signing out, or removing the device under Account → Sessions, ends it.
- Your email address is never shown to anyone. Your display name, account number and bio are on your profile.
Backups
Backups of the database and the original photos are encrypted so that only the site's owner can read them, and no more than the last seven are kept.
